I know without a doubt what the worst thing for Christmas I ever received was. It was totally adorable, the most darling thing in the world, big blue eyes and gorgeous brown hair and a ribbon wrapped around his neck. It was a puppy from my boyfriend when I was 16 years old.
My boyfriend brought him over with a big box of candy, some sort of flowers and a Christmas card. Right away I was quite appalled, but really did not know what to say. I definitely wasn't going to tell my boyfriend I didn't want him.
It was apparent that Josie (yes, Josie was a boy, but I liked the name so He got a She name) was going to be a big, big, fully grown dog when his growing days were over. My parents were a little flabbergasted too. We were living in a modest 3 bedroom home in West Valley City, Utah - myself, my parents and my sister, younger than me by a year and a half.
We tried living with Josie, but he ate everything, and I'm not just talking about food.
One day my dad left him in the garage (it was heated and he left him food and water) while my sister and I went to school and he and mom went to work, and he ate the door from the garage into the house!! Literally ATE it!!
In all honesty, Josie didn't like loud noises and a thunderstorm came that afternoon and the noise scared Josie into wanting in the house under my bed, so the only way he could get in was through that door so he just started ripping it apart with his teeth. That should tell you how big this dog got!!
My boyfriend and I continued dating until Josie was 7 or 8 month old. As much as I adored my boyfriend I think one of the things that involved us breaking up was Josie. When I broke up with him I told him he had to take the puppy back. Me, mom, dad and sis were all thankful for that break up!!
Still to this day I have not owned a dog. I do have a cat - A whole 8 lb house cat. His name is Trouble, and really, as much trouble as he is, I don't have to worry about him eating any of the doors to the house!
